Golf Tournament Honest Abe Golf Tournament
Thank you for supporting the “Honest Abe Golf Tournament”, held on October 8-9th, 2023. With your generous giving, the event raised funds ($10,000) to support the Family Literacy’s mission, which ensures every family is provided for, regardless of a family’s income. The weather was ideal, laughs were plentiful and lasting memories were made. We would like to extend our gratitude to Administrator Phil Gould, Scott Winslow and Grace Gervais of The Lincoln Parks & Rec Department, Jackie Dionne and the entire “Honest Abe” committee for your countless hours planning and accomplishing the intended goals of fun, community and raising funds. Also, thank you Bob Turner for your generous food donation and support. Our appreciation is also extended to the local businesses and organizations that sponsored “tee’s” and the incredible donations for our raffles. We would be remiss had we not mentioned our gracious hosts of the tournament; Doug Vaughan and the entire staff of Bogey’s at Fairlawn Golf Course truly outdid themselves and provided a picturesque venue! Three simple words define The Family Literacy Center – Learn, Grow & Community. Together, the three encompasses the “hidden treasure” that beholds in Manville. The FLC provides a safe and nurturing environment to children and their families to elevate educational opportunities and empowering lives through education, support, advocacy and opportunity. In closing, we are truly humbled by the overwhelming generosity of those that planned, volunteered, participated or just came out to join in the fun! Our “FLC Family” is so very grateful and thankful. “Community is about doing something together, that makes belonging matter” –Brian Solis

High School Volunteers

The FLC offers daily after-school homework assistance from grades 1-12, including an afternoon snack. We offer one on one assistance with at-risk students, tutoring and have an open communication with teachers and principals to assist with graduation requirements such as exhibition projects. In collaboration with Lincoln High School, we offer volunteer service hours to high school students.
Students are also employed as “homework assistants” These students must be honor roll students in good standing, both academically and socially. These assistants will provide additional support to all students, ensuring completion of homework, and encouraging participation in IXL learning modules in either Math and/or ELA. With the focus on improving academic performance and bridging learning gaps, these assistants will play a vital role in helping students understand and complete their assignments effectively.
